On Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The total solar eclipse will begin over the South Pacific Ocean and the first location in continental North America that will experience totality is Mexico’s Pacific coast at around 11:07 a.m. PDT. The path of the eclipse continues from Mexico, entering the United States in Texas, and traveling over the United States until it reaches Canada. The eclipse will enter Canada in Southern Ontario, and continue through Quebec, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Cape Breton. The eclipse will exit continental North America on the Atlantic coast of Newfoundland, Canada, at 5:16 p.m. NDT.
Waco (McLennan County), Texas, will be in the path of totality and will see 4 minutes and 13 seconds of darkness. With many visitors expected in McLennan County during this event, the 9-1-1 District wants to inform the public that the eclipse is not a reason to call 9-1-1. While the eclipse will be a momentous occasion, it is not considered an emergency. Please refrain from calling 9-1-1 unless you have an urgent need for police, fire or medical assistance.
Don’t overshadow a stellar event by calling 9-1-1.
